It's a tough thing when you lose your job. We are so closely identified with the work that we do, that sometimes it is hard to separate who we personally are from what we do for a living. When we lose our job, we also sometimes lose a part of ourselves.
So, how do you bounce back after such a loss? Here are 5 WAYS to an IMMEDIATE BOOST that you can do:
1. Give yourself a PREDETERMINED AMOUNT OF TIME to feel sorry for yourself.
You have to set that time because when you've suffered a job loss, you could take a long time to bounce back to where you get into the action and that is not going to be good for you.
2. Don't call everybody you know and TELL THE STORY about losing your job OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
Our brain works off automaticity where when we repeat things over and over and over again, it can then have the same thoughts running through our brain all by itself. You don't want to cement that story. That's just one piece of who you are.
3. You can't make good decisions with an UPSET MIND.
Mindset matters. Listen, losing a job is something to be distraught over but you can't stay there if you want to move forward.
4. Start a SUCCESS JOURNAL right now.
What have you done to generate revenue, increase productivity, improve culture, drive sales, bring more customers to the market, do PR work? What is it specifically and what is the result you achieved? If you do this every day, you would have a whole book filled with how brilliant you are and that's exactly what you need to share with other future potential employers.
5. The only solution is to TAKE ACTION.
Staying where you are in that feeling bad without taking any action will not serve you at all. Life is peaks and valleys, and when we're in the valley, we always have to remember there is another peak coming. Take action to get back on the peak.
